Float takes second place in parade

Staff members from the Osawatomie Graphic, Miami County Republic and Louisburg Herald participated in the annual John Brown Jamboree parade on June 16th. Inspired by the parade theme of “Happy 150th Birthday, Kansas!,” employees created a nostalgic newsroom float with authentic items pulled from the attic, basement and warehouse of the Republic and Graphic buildings. Dressed in vintage costumes, staff members manned the darkroom, editor and secretary’s desks and lobby on board the float, while newsboys passed out a special subscription offer and candy to parade spectators. Their efforts snagged second place and a $100 prize.

The float reminded the crowd that the Osawatomie Graphic has been an integral part of the community for 123 years, having begun publication in 1888.
